Before cars that are fresh from the assembly line can be driven onto the street, they must be registered. This process often takes several weeks, and involves a great deal of paperwork. Decision makers at SEAT thought there must be a faster way. And now, thanks to a solution developed by T-Systems, the company has become the first automaker to take the entire vehicle registration process online. In short, every new SEAT vehicle for the Spanish market will be registered over the Internet. All the necessary steps, from registering the vehicle for an ITV, the Spanish road worthiness inspection, to obtaining a license plate, are carried out electronically. SEAT sends the vehicle’s chassis number and technical specifications to the government authorities, and obtains a license plate number online. As a result, the entire process is faster, uses less paper and is environmentally friendly.

Bellco, an Italy-based company specializing in biomedical products and therapies, has outsourced its entire ICT landscape to T-Systems. That means it can now focus on its core competencies: supporting kidney and heart patients. T-Systems delivers a one-stop solution for the operation of Bellco’s ICT. What’s more, the service provider has integrated systems at Bellco’s headquarters near Modena with sites in Belgium, the United Kingdom and Spain. Four letters are currently making waves in the IT world: BITP (business innovation and transformation partners). These are providers that offer a one-stop service – comprising management and IT consulting, implementation, outsourcing, and business-process management. A recent study conducted by Lünendonk found that 75 percent of the 131 German-speaking businesses surveyed believe the BITP concept will be successful. Of the 30 publicly-traded companies questioned, this figure was 95 percent.

Mexico is renowned for its multitude of colors. For example, the country is home to crimson, the color of kings and cardinals. And one of North America’s largest manufacturers of paints and coatings comes from the land of the Aztecs too: Comex. The company has around 3,6200 stores in Mexico, Canada, United States and Central America. And its headquarters are connected to these branches via an online solution operated by T-Systems. Store employees receive up-to-the-minute information on products and pricing, and can order new paints rapidly, when required. And Comex doesn’t have to reach deep into its pockets: All communications, including phone calls are conducted free of charge via the Internet.

Volkswagen Group Italia has revamped its document management system at its Italian headquarters in the culture capital of Verona. VW Italy now leverages state-of-the-art technology. The solution, which has been extensively enhanced by T-Systems, enables employees to create and edit documents faster than ever before. All content is managed via a standardized interface and staff can call up documents with point-and-click simplicity. The project is part of a large-scale initiative at Volkswagen Italy to streamline business processes and reduce costs.

Green Point Stadium in Cape Town – one of the Soccer World Cup venues for 2010 – lies directly between the Atlantic Ocean and Table Mountain. This all-weather, multi-purpose arena with a capacity of 70,000 is being built from scratch. All parties are working hard to make sure everything’s ready for the first kickoff, including South African construction group Murray & Roberts. Murray & Roberts has outsourced the hosting of its ERP system and various intranet applications to T-Systems – giving it more time to spend on its core business. In addition, T-Systems provides WAN connectivity via its MPLS network to Murray & Roberts’ 71 sites, making business- critical data, internet access and email rapidly available anywhere and anytime. Madrid moves with the times. In the Leganés district, there is even a street named after heavy-metal band AC/DC. And the suburb is breaking new ground in other ways, too – by deploying a state-of-the-art system at local-government offices. Citizens and companies can make enquiries and request information around-the-clock via the Internet. To encourage more and more people to leverage this offering, the district of Leganés is continuously enhancing the portal and adding new functionality. T-Systems supports Leganés with these projects, drawing on its extensive experience from a wide range of e-government projects. Sandy beaches, blue sea, palm trees: flat-screen monitors in the windows of 200 TUI travel agencies transport passersby to the most beautiful destinations around the world. Germany’s leading tour operator uses this state-of-the-art digital system to display up-to-the-minute offers and travel information. TUI manages all the screens via a central content system at the company’s headquarters in Hanover. T-Systems was responsible for installation and supports the entire infrastructure – from the central management system to the devices at each travel agency.

To ensure high quality of service, SAS Automotive regularly provides skills-development training for its staff. This training is delivered via Edunex, a web-based learning platform from T-Systems. SAS Automotive, a supplier of cockpit systems, uses the software to provide educational materials relating to its new quality management system to 250 employees at 20 sites around the globe – in multiple languages. The content is developed centrally by SAS, and can be remotely accessed via Edunex. The online training sessions accelerate the learning process, and ensure a consistently high level of expertise across all locations. What’s more, the platform reduces travel costs by allowing SAS Automotive employees to learn anytime, anywhere, in line with their individual schedules. All training materials were modified by an instructor at each site to ensure they met the needs of local staff. And instructors entered their changes directly into Edunex, cutting the time it took to rollout the solution worldwide from ten months to ten weeks. The automobile supplier is currently planning to develop additional online training programs, and to compile a knowledge database.

ThyssenKrupp Steel’s new mill in Brazil is set to produce around five metric tons of steel annually. Every year, the company ships around 250,000 steel slabs from Brazil to the USA and Germany via a sea port built specifically for this purpose. Soon, each of these blocks will be fitted with an RFID (radio-frequency identification) tag encoded with a unique identification number before it leaves the port. These tags emit wireless signals that are automatically picked up by special readers located at various stations along the slab’s journey (for example, as it is being unloaded). The data is sent to the T-Systems data center in Frankfurt where further details such as when and where the slabs were unloaded is added. ThyssenKrupp Steel’s employees can then call up this information via a secure Internet portal. RFID scanners located around the world are remotely monitored by T-Systems from Frankfurt. Thanks to this innovative technology, ThyssenKrupp Steel has reduced loading and unloading times at ports, and cut costs.

Gaudi’s city supported by T-Systems. The ICT service provider is developing and implementing an intranet for authorities in Barcelona – Catalonia’s first largest city (Spain). In future, around 13,000 city government employees will have quick and easy access to all applications, services and information from their desktops. What’s more, it incorporates Web 2.0 functions such as wikis, blogs and video portals as enablers for collaborative working and collective intelligence.

Debrecen is not only Hungary’s second largest city, it is also T-Systems’ most important center for production and support in Eastern Europe. Around 1,800 T-Systems professionals are based in Debrecen, supporting major European customers such as Shell, British American Tobacco, and Thomas Cook. What’s more, the nearshore facility was expanded in early August with the opening of a new office complex. Hungary is a rich source of skilled workers, particularly qualified to perform routine IT tasks – such as software programming and central support hotlines – to a high standard.
