T-Systems implements automotive industry solution for Komatsu

T-System in South Africa delivers automotive industry solution for Komatsu. The Komatsu Southern Africa SAP project is a flagship project in that it is the first in the global Komatsu organisation implementing wall to wall SAP solution for the entire Southern African region, with specialised modules like Vehicle Management System, Customer Service and Customer Relationship Management – for quotes for the automotive industry.

Mike Blom, Managing Director of Komatsu comments, “Over the past few years Komatsu Southern Africa has experienced phenomenal growth and the need to transform the business to meet the requirements of the growth became more and more critical. The single biggest risk and obstacle we faced in implementing significant business transformation was our old legacy system.” With regards to the risk of Enterprise Resource Planning projects he had this to say, “We set ourselves a clear goal of knowing what we were purchasing, what it was going to cost us and ensuring that we implemented the system on time. We made this clear to T-Systems that these were our fundamental requirements.”

Komatsu Southern Africa is the first customer for T-Systems in South Africa where they are also hosting the solution at the T-Systems Data Center in Midrand, Johannesburg – the Application Support Center will be taking over the support for the solution during the go-live support process in July.

T-Systems has been developing its Automotive competencies for a while now and is pleased to be registering a SAP All-in-One automotive template which caters for the baseline automotive and heavy machinery manufacturers. Komatsu Southern Africa with its head-office in Isando, Johannesburg, has 39 sites across South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and an Africa Operations division looking after all other African countries. Komatsu Limited in Japan has a competitive presence on all continents. SAP has been implemented in Japan, Australia and Brazil with limited scope.
